WATER OLYMPICS The 5th annual Water Olympics will be held on Saturday July, 23rd at the Lloyd Square Park swimming pool beginning at 10:00 am. Registration and check in begins at 9:00 am. There will be activities for all ages. Ages 6 & under: Alligator Race, Horse Race, Candy Dive, Biggest Splash, & Water Balloon Toss. Ages 7 - 11: 25M Races, Kickboard Race, Candy Dive, & Diving Board Competition. Ages 12 - 17: 25M Race, Kickboard Race, Dollar Dive, & Diving Board Competition. Ages 18 & up: 25M Race, 50M Race, Kickboard Race, Dollar Dive, & Diving Board Competition. Registrations forms are available at the Recreation Department & will be at the pool. Cost: $2 per event or 3 events for $5. Pre-registration is greatly appreciated.

SWIMMING POOL CLASSES: Community Water Safety: This class is for swimmers and non-swimmers, camp leaders, parents and baby sitters. Participants will learn a variety of aquatic venues, preparing for water activities, taking action in an emergency, and providing care until help arrives. Also successful completion of this class certifies 13-17 year olds to supervise those 6 and under during open swim hours. COST: $20 city; $30 non-city Guard Start: This class gives motivated 11 - 14 year olds a successful jump start into the Red Cross lifeguard training program. The class serves as a sound foundation for further training in lifeguarding and aquatics as it covers 5 areas: Prevention, Fitness, Response, Leadership, and Professionalism. Cost for books & class: $40 city; $55 non-city Lifeguard Training: This class is designed for individuals 15 years and older who have passed Level VI class. The class is a high-level course that demands swimmoing skill, stamina and motivation. This course will provide the necessary minimum skill training for a person to qualify to serve as a lifeguard. Students must complete the requisite training in First Aid and CPR prior to issuance of the Lifeguard Training Certificate. Cost: Class & Books: $50 city; $65 non-city. Adult Lap Swim: Lap swim is for individuals who swim regularly as an efficient way to improve vigor and strength while reducing tension. Adult morning and evening lap swim will tentatively begin June 14 and continue on MWF 6-7 am and 5-6pm thru August 20. Cost: $1.25 per time. Season Pass: $25 city; $37.50 non-city. Punch Card: 10 for $10 city; $15 non-city Aqua Fitness: Enjoy a 45 minute stress free aqua fitness class. This is a low impact water exercise program to help improve the working of your heart and blood vessels, helps you relax, relieves stress, gives you more energy, improves self-esteem, and helps control your appitite. In general, it will help you lead a healthier life. This is an activity you can enjoy with your friends. We are offering 3- 3 week classes: June 14 - July 2, July 12 - July 30 & August 2 - August 20. Adult class (16 & up) MWF 5:30 -6:15 pm. Cost: $22 city; $35 non-city. Fun Swim Nights: Bring your snorkels, fins, large beach balls on Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday nights. Open swim at night begins June 22, 7-9 pm. Glendive swimming pool has 3 nights set aside for use of water toys and equipment in the pool. Come & have some fun. |
SWIM CLASSES DESCRIPTION & INFORMATION: INFANT SWIM: This class is for children between the ages of 6 months and 36 months. Infants work with one or both parents under the supervision of the instructor. Emphasis on water adjustment, back floating and kicking. Session 2 & 3; 2 weeks. 12:15-12:45 & 6:00 - 6:30 pm. (There may be a possibility of ear infections in young children) Cost: $22 city; $33 non-city. LEVEL 1- INTRODUCTION TO WATER SKILLS-There is no prerequisites for this course. The objective of Level 1 is to help students feel comfortable in the water and to enjoy water safely. In Level 1, students are taught elementary aquatic skills, which can be built on as they progress through the 6 Learn-to-Swim levels. At this level the students start developing good attitudes and safe practices around the water. Some students will have experience with the water and may begin the program at a higher level. Students are encouraged to explore movement in the water.NOTE: All Level 1 classes are only 30 minutes (for 2 weeks). Session 1-3. Cost: $22 city; $33 non-city. LEVEL 1B- WATER SKILLS- Students entering this course must have a Level 1 certificate or must be able to demonstrate all the completion requirements in Level 1. The objective of Level 1B is to give those advanced young students a challenge in the water. Students will spend time practicing elementary aquatic skills learned in Level 1. The fundamentals of floating and locomotion will also be introduced. Children ages 4-5 best suited for this class. NOTE: All Level 1B classes are only 30 minutes (for 2 weeks). Session 1 - 3 . Cost: $22 city; $33 non-city. LEVEL II- FUNDAMENTAL AQUATIC SKILLS- Students entering must have Level 1B certificate or be able to demonstrate all the completion requirements in Level 1B. The objective of Level II is to give the students success with fundamental skills. Students learn to float without support and to recover to a vertical position. This level marks the beginning of true locomotion skills. Students explore simultaneous and alternating arm and leg actions on the front and back to lay the foundation for future strokes. Level II adds to the self-help and basic rescue skills begun in Level 1. Cost: Session 1 & 2: $40 city; $63 non-city. Session 3 $31 city; $48 non-city. LEVEL III- STROKE DEVELOPEMENT- Students entering this course must have a Level II certificate or must be able to demonstrate all the completion requirements in Level II. The objective of Level III is to build on the skills in Level II by providing additional guided practice. Students are taught to coordinate the front crawl and back crawl. They are introduced to elements of the butterfly and the fundamentals of treading water. Students should also learn rules for head-first entries and begin to learn to enter the water head-first from the side of the pool (if the water is 9 ft. or deeper). As in all levels, additional saftey skills will be presented. Cost: Session 1 & 2: $40 city; $$63 non-city. Session 3 $31 city; $48 non-city. |
LEVEL IV- STROKE IMPROVEMENT- Students entering this course must have a Level III certificate or must be able to demonstrate all the completion requirements in Level III. The objective of Level IV is to develope confidence in the strokes learned thus far and to improve aquatic skills. Students are taught to improve their skills and increase ther endurance by swimming familiar strokes (front crawl & back crawl) for greater distances. Students continue to build on the butterfly and are introduced to the elementary backstroke, breaststroke, and elements of the sidestroke. Basics of turning at a wall are also introduced. Cost: Session 1 & 2: $40 city; $$63 non-city. Session 3 $31 city; $48 non-city. LEVELV- STROKE REFINEMENT- Students entering this course must have a Level IV certificate or must be able to demonstrate all the completion requirements in Level IV. The objective of Level V is coordination and refinement of strokes. Participants refine their performance of all strokes (front crawl, back crawl, butterfly, breaststroke, elementary backstroke and sidestroke) and increase their distances. Cost: Session 1 & 2: $40 city; $$63 non-city. Session 3 $31 city; $48 non-city. LEVEL VI - SWIMMING AND SKILL PROFICIENCY- Students entering this course must have a Level V certificate or must be able to demonstrate all the completion requirements in Level V. The objective of Level VI is to refine strokes so students swim with more ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over greater distances. Other aquatic activities will also be introduced. Level VI is designed with a "menu" of topics: Personal Water Safety, Fundamentals of Diving, Fitness Swimmer, and Lifeguard Readiness. Each of these options focus on preparing students to participate in more advanced courses, such as: Water Safety Instructor and Lifeguard Training, or other aquatic activities such as competitive swimming or diving. Because of the variety this level offers, participants can repeat it to focus on different goals each time. Cost: Session 1 & 2: $40 city; $$63 non-city. Session 3 $31 city; $48 non-city ADULT CLASSES- Designed for adults who have never had the opportunity to take swimming lessons.
